DMCA Copyright Policy
Copyright matters. FretStudio LLC respects intellectual property rights and responds promptly to valid DMCA notices. Submitting a false notice may result in liability under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f).
1. Designated Copyright Agent
FretStudio LLC has registered a Designated Agent with the U.S. Copyright Office as required by 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(2). Our registration is on file with the Copyright Office DMCA Designated Agent Directory.

2. Filing a DMCA Takedown Notice
To submit a valid DMCA notice, your written communication must include all of the following:
- A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or authorized agent
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed (e.g., song name, original recording, or link to original work)
- Identification of the infringing material and information sufficient for us to locate it within FretStudio (e.g., description of the content or relevant user information)
- Your name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address
- A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
- A statement under penalty of perjury that the information in the notice is accurate and you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner
Incomplete notices will not be processed. Knowingly submitting a false DMCA notice may result in liability for damages under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f).

3. Our Response to Valid Notices
Upon receipt of a valid, complete DMCA notice, FretStudio will:
- Promptly remove or disable access to the allegedly infringing content
- Notify the affected user that the content has been removed
- Forward a copy of the notice to the user as required by law
- Document the action in accordance with our record-keeping obligations
4. Counter-Notification Procedure
If you believe content was removed due to mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notification to our Designated Agent. A valid counter-notification must include:
- Your physical or electronic signature
- Identification of the removed material and its location before removal
- A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief the material was removed due to mistake or misidentification
- Your name, address, telephone number, and email address
- A statement consenting to jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for your address (or the Middle District of Florida if you are outside the U.S.) and accepting service of process from the original complainant
Upon receipt of a valid counter-notification, we will forward it to the complainant and restore the content within 10–14 business days unless the complainant files a court action and notifies us during that period.
5. Repeat Infringer Policy
Users who are the subject of three or more valid DMCA takedown notices within any 12-month period will have their accounts terminated. We maintain records of all valid notices and enforce this policy without exception.
6. Fair Use and Personal Use
FretStudio acknowledges that importing chord sheets or lyrics for personal practice may constitute fair use under 17 U.S.C. § 107. However, sharing copyrighted content through community or setlist sharing features does not benefit from the same analysis.
FretStudio is designed for personal practice and original music creation. We do not encourage or endorse copyright infringement.
